BAILEY / MING SPRING Collision 

Collision between the .m.v. "BAILEY" and the m.v. "MING SPRING" off Mikomoto-Jima, Japan on August 26, 1983.

At about 21:55 hours on August 26, 1983 the bow of the m.v. "MING SPRING" (18,554GT flying Panamanian flag) laden with 17,700 tons of barley on passage from Yokkaichi to Shiogama rammed the port side of the m.v. "BAILEY" (16,105GT flying Panamanian flag, built in 1980 by MHI, Shimonoseki Shipyards, manned by Korean crew of 25 all told), laden with 5322 kilo tons of steel products on passage from 
Chiba to Kokura drawing 6 meters fore and 6.45 meteres aft making way at 14.5 knots off Mikomoto-Jima, Japan in the clear wether with full moon, wind force 3, visibility being slightly restricted to 5`6 miles.
As a result of the collision the "BAILEY" sustained a huge hole on her port side in way of cargo holds No.4 and No.5 and the "MING SPRING" sustained a serious damage on her bow.

Fujii & Toda were retained by owners and hull-underwriters of the "BAILEY". The matter was settled out of court of September 5, 1985.
